War Review and Soccer Moms

The war continues but more on that in a bit.

Sweetie Pie has made me a soccer mom again for the fall. It was touch and go for awhile but he finally decided to play. He had been talking about playing baseball but it worried me because most, if not all, of the kids have been playing for several years. Also, baseball can be pretty slow-paced and waiting, patience, losing and not being perfect from the beginning are skills we are working on with Sweetie Pie. The most stressful part of this whole thing was that soccer registration ended on July 25 but there were no updates or information on when baseball registration was going to be.

So July 25 was the deadline for a decision. So finally on the 24, right before bedtime, I asked Sweetie Pie about soccer once again. He had enjoyed soccer in the spring and there were no guarantees that there will even be fall baseball. He said he wanted to play baseball. I asked him why he didn’t want to play soccer again and his answer was, “I didn’t score the most goals last time. Everyone on my team scored more goals than I did.” Remember when I said he had problems with losing! That was the biggest reason why I was worried about Sweetie Pie playing baseball. Once we talked and he remembered that he wasn’t the lowest scorer last year (not that it matters), he decided on soccer and now seems excited about playing.

Now on to the war – Friday and Saturday were good. On Sunday there were a few skirmishes lost but on Monday I regained all the lost ground. I also RAN yesterday. Walking has been my main form of exercise outside but after reading some blogs and getting my groove back, I actually ran. Now I only ran .3 miles but it is .3 miles more than I have ran in six weeks. I walked/ran a total of 2.1 miles in 35 minutes. Speedy, I’m not but I’m reacclimating myself to the heat and humidity which I’ve been avoiding the last two weeks.

I’m participating (notice I didn’t say running) in a 5K on Saturday for our local Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. I’m both excited and nervous. It is going to be the first time I’ve participated in an organized race. I’m planning on walking most of it. I might manage a half mile or even a mile run during the race but I’ll be happy just walking and getting a 5K under my belt. I’ve never even been to an organized race so I’m nervous about not breaking any rules but I don’t think this is going to be a huge race so I think it will be a good starting point for me.

I will update my weight on Monday. I have a secret goal that I’m trying to reach and – right now – I’m on track to reach it.

  1. Good luck Saturday! I remember my first 5K. I did a walk/run and still look back on my experience fondly.
